About Newbury

Newbury is the main town of West Berkshire, one of the unitary authority areas set up after the demise of Berkshire County Council.

The town is situated at the crossroads of the A4 Bath-London road and the A34 Southampton-Preston road.

Newbury has changed and grown dramatically since the last war and although still a market town, many successful high technology companies have moved to (or grown up in) the town so that it is now synonymous with Vodafone, Bayer, Quantel etc.

The town is currently very prosperous with some of the lowest unemployment in the E.U.

Newbury is proud of its history with starring roles in two major Civil War battles, the spectacular success of the wool trade, The Kennet and Avon Canal and characters such as Jack’ O Newbury.

The story of Newbury is England's story and it still retains much of its charm whilst being at the cutting edge of modern business.
